Boys Weekend

If you have ever heard the term "What happens in Vegas...Stays in Vegas" ....than you will appreciate this article.

This past Saturday morning, myself and three of my buddies, met at 6:00am, to begin a 3 day "Boys Weekend" ...full of Golf, NFL Football Watching , Gambling, Eating, Drinking, and general GUY'S STUFF buffoonery.  The excited anticipation of such an undertaking is, TO A GUY, almost unbearable. !!  As we pulled out of the driveway, all four of us were like little kids on Christmas morning.

Our odyssey started with a short 2 -1/2 hour drive from Post Falls, Idaho to Moses Lake, Washington.  During the drive, we proceeded to set the stage for the weekend, by placing "Wager's" on everything from all the college & pro football games that weekend, to the "over/under" on the amount of beers that would be consumed by all, during the next 72 hrs? We had the sports pages from about five "Sat Morning editions" littering the SUV. It was comical as we tried to find a pen, so someone could document the bets that were flying around the vehicle. God forbid that we miss the $5.00 bet, on who would be closest to the correct guess on the "Air Temp" at our 9:00am tee time !!! That is fun stuff !!

Upon arriving at our first destination, The Links at Moses Point, we were happy to see very few cars in the parking lot, which meant that we would have the golf course almost ALL TO OURSELVES !!  After a few minutes on the putting green, finalizing the finer points of the wagering, and the purchase of some "Aiming Fluid?", we were standing on the first tee box, ready to dive "head first" into "Nirvanna".....Now, while the actual "level of talent" that we exhibited on the Links was minimal, the quality of the comedy was unsurpassed !!!  (Reading the scorecard upside down was the highlight, as one of the fellas, swore the fairway went right, and proceeded to knock his ball about 100 yards "out of bounds"!)  After 4- 1/2 hours of famous dialogue such as ....."Oh Crap".... "Did you see where my ball went?"  &  "I can't believe that the green had that much break", the round came to a merciful end, and the first phase of our Paradise Weekend had come to an end.

The next order of business, was to now make the 3 hr drive from Moses Lake to Seattle. Once at our hotel, located in the shadows of QUEST FIELD, home of the SEATTLE SEAHAWKS, we dumped our suitcases and headed across the street to the Pyramid Brewing Company, to settle in to watch our beloved BOISE STATE BRONCOS, do battle with the hated OREGON STATE BEAVERS !! Whilst watching the game, it became evident that we needed some solid food, as the "Aiming Fluid" from earlier in the day, started to take effect on a couple of the fella's.  Over the next couple hours, the perfect weekend continued with a BSU victory, sending us to bed with smiles on our faces.

Sunday morning arrives, and nothing can spoil this day. Not even the steady rain falling from the grey Seattle sky. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant, followed by a couple hours at the famous "SLUGGERS SPORTS BAR" watching the morning NFL games, led us to the moment we had all been waiting for. The 1:15 PST kickoff was upon us. NFL football was unfolding right before our eyes, as the 60,000 + Seahawk fans, dressed in every costume you can imagine, screamed non-stop for 3 hours!! It was an amazing game full of everything from defensive safety's to 2-point conversions. Heck, there was even two Kickoff returns for touchdowns !!!  The SD Chargers fell behind early, only to come back and tie the game late in the 4th quarter. As luck would have it, for Seahawk fans, the boy's from the Northwest, mustered up enough energy at the end to pull out an exciting victory!! I left the game, totally "wore out" yet so excited about the thought of doing this AGAIN !!!

As we slowly made our way out of downtown Seattle, an executive decision was made, to make the 3 hour drive to Lake Chalen that evening, so we would be able to get an early tee time the next morning at "BEAR MOUNTAIN RANCH RESORT".  Now, I must say at this point, that my buddies had REALLY enjoyed themselves at the football game !!  At $8.50 a whack, it was hard for me to choke down even a single adult beverage. Must be the "Scotch" in me? That being said, guess who was elected "Pilot" for the drive over???  At any rate, the 2 lane highway, the misty rain, the jovial passengers in the back of the SUV, and my natural body "winding down" mechanism, made for a very interesting drive !!! At one point as we were coming down the eastern slope from Stevens Pass, I thought I was seeing things, as I came around a corner to see a monstrous white dog standing in the middle of the road. !!!  My "Cat Like" reflexes kicked in, and a collision was narrowly averted !!! My heart rate was just about back to normal as we arrived in Lake Chelan. What a fantastic day. We were 2/3 of the way through our "Perfect Weekend"  AND WE WERE STILL ALIVE !!!

Monday morning, and you've heard the term "Best Laid Plans"? My visions of a 8:00am tee time, and early departure for the 3 hour drive back to No Idaho, were soon dashed....as getting a couple of my "COMATOSE" Comrades out of bed, was a "Mission Impossible" sequel !!! No wonder, as I remember thinking I was dreaming as at about 1:00am, one of my wacko friends, was parading around my hotel room in a green thong, as my other buddy took pictures !!!!  It was like a bad "Gay French Fashion Show".....LOL...!!!  (No...they are not gay, just a little off center). Finally, at 11:00am, we are standing at the first tee, ready to tame this beautiful golf track.  To make a long story...short....4 - 1/2 hours later, we limped off the 18th green, having been beat up pretty good by this amazing piece of Real Estate.

All that was left now, was to get some dinner, gas up the SUV, load up the cooler for one last time, and head east. Our trip to OZ was coming to an end.

Guy's....Everyone should, at some point in their lives, take a trip like this. Not only is it super fun to do, but it gives you "story telling" ammunition for years to come! The "male bonding" is undeniable. If possible, make it an annual event. We all need things to look forward to, don't we? If you are blessed to have a spouse that supports this type of frivolity, like mine does, take advantage. Don't worry about how "weird" it seems to your lady....Remind her that you don't understand the hours of her watching HGTV????? (Remember the Venus & Mars story?) And guy's, it works both ways. Encourage your bride to get some "girl time" as well. Let her know that you appreciate the opportunity to be "STUPID" for a weekend.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this little story, as much as I enjoyed re-living it at my keyboard.  Take Care & Be safe this weekend.  Out.....
